Fordingbridge Hospital is a small community hospital in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, England. The hospital closed to admissions in September 2023.

History

The hospital has its origins in the Union Workhouse built on a site on Bartons Road in 1885.{{efn|Replacing an earlier workhouse in Shaftesbury Road that had been destroyed by fire}} The site cost a little over £9,000 and the buildings were erected in the Queen Anne style.{{cite web | last = Higginbotham | first = Peter | author-link = | title = The Workhouse, the Story of an Institution | work = Fordingbridge | publisher = | date = | url = http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Fordingbridge/ | format = | doi = | accessdate = 22 April 2013 | archive-url = | archive-date = }} In the 1930s the facility became a Public Assistance Institution and in 1948 it joined the National Health Service as Fordingbridge Infirmary for the Chronic Sick.

After the Fordingbridge Cottage Hospital at Highfield House on Alderholt Road closed, its services were transferred to the Bartons Road site in 1984,{{cite web|url=https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/written-answers/1986/dec/08/hospital-closures|title=Hospital closures|date=8 December 1986|publisher=UK Parliament|accessdate=10 August 2018}} and a modern facility, known as Ford Ward, opened on the Bartons Road site, which itself became known as Fordingbridge Hospital.{{cite web | last = | first = | author-link = | title = Fordingbridge Hospital | work = | publisher = Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust | date = | url = http://www.southernhealth.nhs.uk/services/community-health-services/hospitals/fordingbridge/ | format = | doi = | accessdate = 22 April 2013 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20130303103618/http://www.southernhealth.nhs.uk/services/community-health-services/hospitals/fordingbridge/ | archive-date = 3 March 2013 | url-status = dead }}
