Posthuman philosophy

In the field of Posthuman Studies,This term itself was first introduced by Francesca Ferrando in 2012: "In the emerging field of Posthuman Studies" (p.1). {{cite journal |author=Ferrando, F. |title=Towards a Posthumanist Methodology |journal=Frame |publisher=Utrecht University |volume=25 |issue=1 |date=2012 |pages=9–18 |access-date=12 February 2025 |url=https://www.frameliteraryjournal.com/25-1-narrating-posthumanism/francesca-ferrando-towards-a-posthumanist-methodology-a-statement/}} Ferrando's article "Posthumanism, Transhumanism, Antihumanism, and New Materialism" (2013){{cite journal |author=Ferrando, F. |title=Posthumanism, Transhumanism, Antihumanism, Metahumanism, and New Materialisms: Differences and Relations |journal=Existenz|publisher=The Karl Jaspers Society of North America |volume=8 |issue=2 |date=Fall 2013 |pages=26–32 |access-date=12 February 2025 |url=https://www.existenz.us/volumes/Vol.8-2Index.pdf}} was instrumental in conceptualizing the posthuman as an umbrella term that encompasses a plurality of intellectual frameworks. The article distinguishes between transhumanism and posthumanism, arguing that while transhumanism advocates for human enhancement through science and emerging technologies, posthumanism critically repositions the human within a broader planetary context in the era of the anthropocene, emphasizing a non-hierarchical perspective. For further reflection on this, see {{cite journal |author=Ferrando, F. |title=The Party of the Anthropocene: Posthumanism, Environmentalism and the Post-Anthropocentric Paradigm Shift |journal=Relations: Beyond Anthropocentrism |volume=4 |issue=2 |pages=159–173 |year=2016 |doi=10.7358/rela-2016-002-ferr |url=https://www.ledonline.it/index.php/Relations/article/view/1073}} Furthermore, posthumanism extends the concept of technology beyond its conventional definition, drawing from Martin Heidegger's interpretation of technology as a mode of poiesis and framing evolution itself as a transformative process that operates as a form of existential technology.
