Biography

Francisco de Mendavia was ordained a monk in the Order of Saint Jerome{{cite web|last=Cheney |first=David M.|title=Bishop Francisco de Mendavia, O.S.H.|website=Catholic-Hierarchy|url=http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop/bmenf.html|accessdate=June 16, 2018}} Wikipedia:SPS and served as prior of the Monastery of La Victoria in Salamanca.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=zs3pF6_bMSEC&pg=PA42 |first=Ricardo |last=Blanco Segura |title=Obispos, arzobispos y representantes de la Santa Sede en Costa Rica |year=1984 |page= |publisher=EUNED |isbn=9789977640792 |via=Google Books}} On 5 December 1537, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Paul III as Bishop of Nicaragua. On 2 August 1538, he was consecrated bishop, a post he held until his death on 6 October 1540.
