One of Hohler's most famous works is the "Totemügerli". It's a Swiss-German story based upon a fabulous creature, written to make fun of the particular dialect spoken in the Canton of Bern by using words sounding like the Bernese dialect but which aren't real words. His collection of witty short stories Der Stein (2011) features border-crossing between the realistic and the fantastic. It is humorous and thought-provoking.{{cite web | url=http://www.new-books-in-german.com/english/1046/335/96/129002/design1.html | title=Franz Hohler Der Stein (The Stone) | publisher=New Books in German | access-date=20 December 2012 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20151206221932/http://www.new-books-in-german.com/english/1046/335/96/129002/design1.html | archive-date=6 December 2015 | url-status=dead }}
