The Frasin–Gura Humorului gas field is a natural gas field located in Gura Humorului, Suceava County, Romania. Discovered in 1971, it was developed by Romgaz, beginning production of natural gas and condensates in 1972. By 2010 the total proven reserves of the Frasin–Gura Humorului gas field were around 36 billion ft3 (1 km3), with a production rate of around 4.9 million ft3/day (0.14×105 m3).{{cite web|url=https://fr.scribd.com/doc/147070685/roma0412-pdf |title=Romanian oil updates |date=2004 |publisher=IHS Energy |access-date=2014-10-05 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141006072111/https://fr.scribd.com/doc/147070685/roma0412-pdf |archive-date=2014-10-06 }} By January 2017, the Frasin–Gura Humorului gas field had a cumulative production of {{cvt|1680e6|m3}} of natural gas and {{cvt|177e6|m3}} of condensates, with its proven reserves down to {{cvt|2182e6|m3}} of natural gas and {{cvt|520e6|m3}} of condensates, estimated to last until 2029.{{cite web|url=https://sgg.gov.ro/1/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Anexa-A-FRASIN-GURA-HUMORULUI.pdf|title=Descrierea perimetrului|lang=ro|publisher=Government of Romania|website=sgg.gov.ro|date=January 26, 2017|access-date=January 28, 2024}}
History
In December 2010 the gas field was connected by pipeline to the municipality of Câmpulung Moldovenesc at a cost of €6 million.{{cite news|url=https://romanialibera.ro/investigatii-romania-libera/conducta-de-transport-a-gazelor-naturale-frasin-campulung-moldovenesc-a-costat-sase-milioane-de-euro-209135/|title=Conducta de transport a gazelor naturale Frasin–Câmpulung Moldovenesc a costat șase milioane de euro|lang=ro|trans-title=The Frasin–Câmpulung Moldovenesc natural gas pipeline cost six million euros|first=Ovidiu| last=Petrovici|newspaper=România liberă|date=December 9, 2010|access-date=January 28, 2024}}
In 2015, a new gas deposit was discovered at a depth of {{cvt|4100|m}} within the perimeter of the Frasin-Gura Humorului gas field.{{cite news|url=https://www.obiectivdesuceava.ro/local/zacaminte-noi-de-gaze-naturale-descoperite-in-zona-frasin/|title=Zăcăminte noi de gaze naturale, descoperite în zona Frasin|lang=ro|trans-title=New natural gas deposits discovered in the Frasin area|work=Obiectiv de Suceava|date=March 30, 2015|access-date=January 28, 2024}} Located in Frasin, the new well contributed alongside a new well at Cargele to a 155% rise in gas condensate production by Romgaz in the first half of 2015.{{cite web|url=https://www.romgaz.ro/sites/default/files/2021-04/Situatii_Financiare_si_Raport_Semestrial_S12015_RO_0.pdf|title=Raport semestrial|lang=ro|publisher=Romgaz|date=June 30, 2015|access-date=January 28, 2024}}
In 2018, it was revealed that an older well from Frasin—dug in the 1970s and later taken out of use—contaminated the waters of the Moldova River as a result of erosion of the river's left bank.{{cite news|url=https://www.obiectivdesuceava.ro/local/raul-moldova-poluat-la-frasin-de-o-veche-sonda-a-romgaz/|title=Râul Moldova, poluat la Frasin de o veche sondă a Romgaz|lang=ro|trans-title=The Moldova River, polluted at Frasin by an old Romgaz well|work=Obiectiv de Suceava|date=July 26, 2018|access-date=January 28, 2024}} In 2023, it was announced that a new gas well would start production at Frasin within a year.{{cite news|url=https://www.obiectivdesuceava.ro/local/o-noua-sonda-de-gaz-la-frasin-intr-un-an-de-zile/|title=O nouă sondă de gaz la Frasin, într-un an de zile|lang=ro|trans-title=A new gas well at Frasin, in a year|work=Obiectiv de Suceava|date=September 8, 2023|access-date=January 28, 2024}}{{Update inline|date=April 2024}}
