Gammarth ({{langx|aeb|ڨمرت}} {{audio|help=no|Gamart.wav|gammart}}) is a town on the Mediterranean Sea in the Tunis Governorate of Tunisia, located some 15 to 20 kilometres north of Tunis, adjacent to La Marsa. It is an upmarket seaside resort, known for its expensive hotels and shops. In the marina bay area, there's a well served pleasance port with a naval shipyard, once privately owned and, as 2023, managed by the public port authority. Gammarth began as a small fishing village but following independence from France it blossomed into a resort from the 1950s. Tourism now provides the backbone to the local economy.{{cite book|title=Tunisia|publisher=Eyewitness Guides|year=2008|page=94}} Gammarth has many five-star hotels and restaurants and also contains many lavish white villas and coves{{clarify|date=October 2015}} in the vicinity. Archaeology

Excavations at Gammarth Hill uncovered a Jewish necropolis, possibly dating to the 3rd century CE, featuring catacombs with Hebrew inscriptions and Jewish symbols, including the menorah, shofar, lulav, and etrog.{{Citation |last=Kerkeslager |first=Allen |title=The Diaspora from 66 to c. 235 ce |date=2006 |work=The Cambridge History of Judaism: Volume 4: The Late Roman-Rabbinic Period |volume=4 |pages=69–70 |editor-last=Katz |editor-first=Steven T. |url=https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/cambridge-history-of-judaism/diaspora-from-66-to-c-235-ce/5AECAD54BE6CA31C7968EED92D6CA36A |access-date=2025-03-22 |series=The Cambridge History of Judaism |place=Cambridge |publisher=Cambridge University Press |doi=10.1017/chol9780521772488.004 |isbn=978-0-521-77248-8 |last2=Setzer |first2=Claudia |last3=Trebilco |first3=Paul |last4=Goodblatt |first4=David|url-access=subscription }}{{cite book |author=Stern, Karen B. |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ZHkykGfn5eYC&dq=Gammarth&pg=PA297 |title=Inscribing devotion and death: archaeological evidence for Jewish populations of North Africa |publisher=Volume 161 of Religions in the Graeco-Roman world, BRILL |year=2008 |isbn=978-90-04-16370-6 |pages=297}}{{cite book |author=Goodenough, Erwin Ramsdell |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=X2IKAQAAIAAJ&q=Gammarth |title=Jewish Symbols in the Greco-Roman Period: Illustrations |publisher=Pantheon Books |year=1968 |isbn=9780608186108}} Numerous lamps decorated with menorahs, as well as ceramic vessels and painted tiles, were also found. These findings point to a well-established Jewish presence in the area, when nearby Carthage was a thriving Roman city.
