The Kansas City Garment District is located in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri to the east of Quality Hill, across Broadway Boulevard. In the 1930s several large clothing manufacturers clustered here, making Kansas City's garment district second only to New York City's in size. Today, this heritage is commemorated by an oversize needle and thread monument designed by Dave Stevens that was installed in 2002.{{cite news |author= Jerry LaMartina |title=Garment District group dedicates sculpture, opens museum |url=http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/stories/2002/09/30/daily58.html |work=Kansas City Business Journal |date=October 4, 2002 |accessdate=2008-04-14}}{{Cite web |title=The Needle - KC Parks and Rec |url=https://kcparks.org/places/the-needle/ |access-date=2023-12-31 |website=kcparks.org}} At one time, this garment district made over 25% of the clothing in the U.S. Its old industrial buildings have since been redeveloped into loft apartments, office, and restaurants.{{cite news |author=Julian Mincer |title= Focus: Kansas City; Housing Just a Walk From Jobs |url=https://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DEFD9123BF931A15752C1A961948260 |work=The New York Times |date=November 22, 1987 |accessdate=2008-04-14}} The Kansas City Garment District Museum opened in 2002 to showcase the history of the area.
