GayLib is an LGBTI liberal association affiliated with the Radical Party. It was formerly affiliated with the French political party Union for a Popular Movement from its inception in 2002 until 2013, and with the Union of Democrats and Independents from 2013 to 2018.Xavier Jardin, Dictionnaire de la Droite, Paris: Larousse, 2007, p. 138 [https://books.google.com/books?id=du-IAAAAMAAJ&q=%22GayLib%22]

History

The creation of GayLib was supported by Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Philippe Douste-Blazy, Alain Juppé, and François Baroin.{{Cite web |url=http://www.gaylib.org/pages/presentation.php#histo |title=Historique |access-date=23 May 2009 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090906091041/http://www.gaylib.org/pages/presentation.php#histo |archive-date=6 September 2009 |url-status=dead }} In 2002, its members participated in the pride parade in Paris for the first time.

Since 2007, they have faced criticism from groups like The Pink Panthers,Cédric Douzant, 'Gay pride: entre les Panthères roses et Gaylib, la guerre continue', in Têtu, 29 June 2009 [http://www.tetu.com/actualites/france/gay-pride-entre-les-pantheres-roses-et-gaylib-la-guerre-continue-14996/10] ACT UP and AIDESMarc Endeweld, 'Marche des fiertés: le char de GayLib bloqué pendant une heure', in Têtu, 30 June 2008 [http://www.tetu.com/actualites/france/Marche-des-fiertes-le-char-de-GayLib-bloque-pendant-une-heure-13202] because of the UMP's repudiation of same-sex marriage.Cédric Douzant, 'Gaylib à la gay pride: le char qui dérange', in Têtu, 25 June 2009 [http://www.tetu.com/actualites/france/gaylib-a-la-gay-pride-le-char-qui-derange-14965/10] However, GayLib argues that the UMP contributed to strengthening hate-crime laws, improving the PACS, establishing the HALDE, and advocating against the criminalization in foreign policy through Rama Yade's appeal to the United Nations.

In January 2013, it rescinded its affiliation with the UMP because of the party's opposition to same-sex marriage.[http://www.lefigaro.fr/flash-actu/2013/01/12/97001-20130112FILWWW00406-gaylib-quitte-l-ump.php Gaylib quitte l'UMP ], Le Figaro, 12/01/2013 It later affiliated with the Union of Democrats and Independents (UDI), whose president, Jean-Louis Borloo, endorsed same-sex marriage.

In 2018, GayLib severed its ties with UDI and joined the Radical Movement (MR).{{Cite web|url=http://lemouvementradical.fr/actualite/le-mouvement-radical-social-liberal-sassocie-avec-gaylib/|title=Le Mouvement Radical / Social-Libéral s'associe avec GayLib – Mouvement Radical|website=lemouvementradical.fr|language=fr-FR|access-date=2019-10-21|archive-date=21 October 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20191021093313/http://lemouvementradical.fr/actualite/le-mouvement-radical-social-liberal-sassocie-avec-gaylib/|url-status=dead}} Following the dissolution of MR, GayLib became the official LGBTI wing of the revived Radical Party (PR).{{Cite web |title=GayLib – Parti Radical |url=https://parti-radical.fr/partenaire/gaylib/ |website=parti-radical.fr |language=fr-FR |access-date=28 June 2022 |archive-date=5 July 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220705133911/https://parti-radical.fr/partenaire/gaylib/ |url-status=dead }}
