The hamlet is located in Moss Valley, by the side of The Moss. The hamlet is located {{convert|2/3|miles|spell=in}} north of Troway, {{convert|1/2|mile|spell=in}} west of Ford, and {{convert|1+2/3|miles}} south-east of Charnock in south-eastern Sheffield.

There was formerly a small quarry in Geerlane which provided the hamlet's main source of employment. Since its closure, the local economy has been based around farming.
