Early life and ministry
Geevarghese Mar Divannasios was born Varghese Ottathengil on 1 November 1950 into a Syrian Christian family in Thalavady near Thiruvalla. He was ordained a priest by Benedict Mar Gregorios in 1978. He served as Rector of the Major Seminary of the Malankara Catholic Church and was appointed Bishop of the Eparchy of Bathery by Pope John Paul II in 1996. Ottathengil's sacerdotal Silver Jubilee was celebrated in 2003. Resignation and death
