In December 2008, Geodis acquired IBM Global Logistics, IBM's global logistics management platform. In summer 2012, Marie-Christine Lombard, then head of Dutch express group TNT Express, was approached by SNCF. In October 2012, she was appointed CEO of Geodis. She replaces Jean-Louis Demeulenaere, who between 2008 and 2012 made a series of acquisitions that enabled the group to expand internationally, broaden its service offering and grow sales, notably through the acquisition of IBM's logistics management platform, considered by the market to be the first Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) service offering deployed in Europe, and giving birth to the group's fifth business line, Geodis Supply Chain Optimisation.

As of January 7, 2022, still reeling from the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on its accounts, SNCF is nevertheless considering external growth operations (to strengthen its Geodis subsidiary).
