George Howson (priest)

George John Howson[http://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait/mw101412/George-John-Howson NPG details] (1 May 1854 – 20 May 1943) was an Anglican archdeacon.

Howson was born in Liverpool in 1854 where his father, John Howson, was Principal of the Liverpool Collegiate Institution (Liverpool College).{{cite journal |title=The Rev George John Howson, MA |journal=Lancashire Faces & Places |date=October 1901 |volume=1 |issue=10 |pages=146–147}} He was educated at that college and Haileybury College and went to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1873, achieving a BA degree and an MA in 1880. His son, also George (1886–1936), was the founder and chairman of the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory. His daughter Joan (1885–1964) was a stained glass artist of the Arts and Crafts movement; together with Caroline Townshend she founded the Townshend and Howson company.
