Gerald Thomas Tanner (24 August 1921 – 10 January 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL).Holmesby & Main (2014), p.867.
Family
The son of Aloysius Lindsay Walter Tanner (1890–1990), and Monica Amy Tanner (1895–1963), née Knight,[http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article1643315 Marriages: Tanner—Knight, The Argus, (Saturday, 2 March 1918), p.13.][http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article264051666 Wodonga Girl Weds, The Border Morning Herald, (Saturday, 19 November 1949), p.6.] Gerald Thomas Tanner was born at Wodonga, Victoria on 24 August 1921.
He married Margaret Raie Murphy (1928–2005) on 12 November 1949.[http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article69598944 Wedding: Tanner Murphy, The Wodonga and Towong Sentinel, (Friday, 18 November 1949), p.2.] He is the father of former North Melbourne and Melbourne player, Xavier Tanner.
Football
Tanner was originally from Wodonga and played with Murray Football League club Cobram in 1939 and 1940 before his recruitment by Richmond.

Death
