A Guardian article (by Simon Fanshawe, 13 February 2003) once featured the comment, “Dawn French is off to deliver a birthday present to her best friend, the actress Geraldine McNulty”.{{Cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2003/feb/13/theatre.artsfeatures|title='How frightening is this?'|last=Fanshawe|first=Simon|date=2003-02-13|newspaper=The Guardian|access-date=2017-02-08|language=en-GB|issn=0261-3077}} The photographs in French's book "Dear Fatty" are also of McNulty: "BF" in that book would appear to refer to her.{{Cite web |title=Dawn French on doing it alone on stage |url=https://www.irishtimes.com/news/dawn-french-on-doing-it-alone-on-stage-1.349855 |access-date=2025-04-10 |website=The Irish Times |language=en}}

Comedian Craig Hill has talked about how seeing McNulty's play 10 Women In One Frock Show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1995 changed his life, making him switch from acting to comedy. He said "I don’t think I’d ever seen a show that made me want to be in it more. At the time I was an actor and not even thinking about doing stand-up but I was completely drawn to creating funny characters and making audiences laugh the way she did."
