Cremon was requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine on 1 October 1939.{{Cite web |last=Rohwer |first=Jurgen |last2=Hümmelchen |first2=Gerhard |date=20 June 2019 |title=Vorpostenflottillen 1939 – 1945 |url=https://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/km/vboote/vfl1-20.htm |access-date=9 April 2022 |website=Seekrieg: Timeline of the Naval War 1939–1945 |publisher=Bibliothek für Zeitgeschichte |language=de |via=Württembergische Landesbibliothek}} She served as an auxiliary patrol boat during the early years of World War II in the 1 Vorpostenflotille, specifically serving off Norway immediately after the German invasion there. During the invasion, Norwegian minelayers frantically mined the harbors that German ships would soon occupy. One of these minelayers, {{HNoMS|Tyr|1887|6}}, laid over twenty mines between Lerøy Island and Sotra and around Vatlestraumen. Since no minesweepers were available in the area, the two support vessels {{ship|German trawler|Schiff 9||2}} and Cremon were outfitted in mine clearing gear and sent to clear the area of mines. Schiff 9 struck a mine and sank in less than two minutes, and when Cremon moved to rescue survivors she too struck a mine and exploded. Around six of her crew were killed, five survived.{{Cite book|last=Paterson |first=Lawrence|url=https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/1019871607|title=Hitler's forgotten flotillas : Kriegsmarine security forces|isbn=978-1-4738-8240-9|location=Barnsley|oclc=1019871607}}{{Cite web|url=http://www.naval-history.net/xDKWW2-4004-13APR02.htm|title=Norwegian Campaign, Battles of Narvik, April 1940|website=naval-history.net|access-date=13 February 2020}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?213724|title=Cremon FV (1929~1939) V-105 (Cremon) (+1940)|website=Wrecksite|access-date=13 February 2020}}{{cbignore|bot=medic}}
