Diagnosis
Giant solitary trichoepithelioma is distinguished histologically by a dermal or subcutaneous tumor made up of basophilic cells grouped in solid, adenoid, or lace-like clusters. The cells have a sparse cytoplasm and a darkly pigmented nucleus, and the tumor islands exhibit the typical peripheral cell palisading. Papillary bodies and trichilemmal keratinization in horn cysts are indicative of a solid diagnosis, however they are not always present. Failures to develop papillary mesenchyme are represented by papillary bodies.{{cite journal | last1=Swaroop | first1=MukundaRanga | last2=Sathyanarayana | first2=BelagolaDassegowda | last3=Chaurasia | first3=PriyankaKumari | last4=Devaraj | first4=Yogesh | last5=Dukkipati | first5=Monica | last6=Sajid | first6=Aneesa | title=Giant solitary trichoepithelioma over the nose | journal=Indian Journal of Dermatopathology and Diagnostic Dermatology | volume=4 | issue=1 | date=2017 | issn=2349-6029 | doi=10.4103/ijdpdd.ijdpdd_65_16 | doi-access=free | page=17}}
