Family

The fifth son of Thomas Bruce Hendrie and Alice Charlotte Ingram, Hendrie grew up in the Hawthorn area. Football

A tall man for his era, he was a centre half-forward and originally played for Camberwell Football Club before transferring to Hawthorn when they joined the VFL. After football

Gil Hendrie married Isabella Victoria Deering in 1926{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article146596261 |title=Family Notices. |newspaper=Table Talk |location=Melbourne |date=12 August 1926 |page=47 |via=National Library of Australia}} and after football he became a partner in Deering's Bakery in Camberwell before retiring to Mornington.{{cite web |url=http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2007-05-30/footy-flashbacks-round-10 |title=Footy Flashbacks. |publisher=Hawthorn Football Club}}
