Girl with a Pierced Eardrum is a 2014 mural by anonymous street artist Banksy, on the wall of a building in Hanover Place, Spike Island, Bristol, England. Appearing overnight on 20 October 2014, it is a parody of Girl with a Pearl Earring, c. 1665 by Johannes Vermeer, instead replacing the pearl earring with an existing security alarm.{{cite web |title=Girl with a Pierced Eardrum, 2014 |url=https://banksyexplained.com/girl-with-a-pierced-eardrum-2014-3/ |website=Banksy Explained |date=14 May 2021 |access-date=8 February 2023}}
The mural was partially defaced with black paint two days after it first appeared, on 22 October 2014.{{cite news |last1=Stevens |first1=Jenny |title=Banksy's 'Girl with the Pierced Eardrum' vandalised in Bristol |url=https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2014/oct/22/banksys-girl-with-the-pierced-eardrum-vandalised-in-bristol |access-date=8 February 2023 |work=The Guardian |date=22 October 2014}}{{cite news |last1=Dearden |first1=Lizzie |title=New Banksy 'Girl with the Pierced Eardrum' appears in Bristol – and it's already been defaced |url=https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/new-banksy-girl-with-the-pierced-eardrum-mural-appears-in-bristol-9807434.html |access-date=8 February 2023 |work=The Independent |date=22 October 2014}}

2020 masking
In April 2020, a fabric face mask appeared on the wall, covering the face of the Girl in the mural. This referred to the masks worn by healthcare staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.{{cite web |last1=Suggs |first1=Tania |title=Coronavirus: Banksy's Girl With A Pierced Eardrum gets a COVID-19 face mask |url=https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-banksys-girl-with-a-pierced-eardrum-gets-a-covid-19-face-mask-11977360 |website=Sky News |access-date=18 February 2023 |date=23 April 2020}} It was not known exactly when the mask was installed,{{cite news |last1=Braddick |first1=Imogen |title=Banksy's Girl with a Pierced Eardrum given face mask in nod to coronavirus pandemic |url=https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/banksy-face-mask-girl-with-pearced-eardrum-bristol-a4421241.html|publisher= Evening Standard |access-date=18 February 2023 |date=22 April 2020}} or who installed it.
