Originally known as the Glendale Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, it was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the California Churrigueresque style of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture in 1923. It had replaced the Atwater Tract Office dating from 1883. A scene from Buster Keaton's College was filmed at the station in 1927.{{Cite book |last=Bengtson |first=John |title=Silent echoes: discovering early Hollywood through the films of Buster Keaton |last2=Brownlow |first2=Kevin |date=2000 |publisher=Santa Monica Press |isbn=978-1-891661-06-8 |location=Santa Monica, Calif |pages=200}}

The city bought the depot from Southern Pacific in 1989 and acquired adjacent properties to create an intermodal center.{{cite news |last=Willman |first=Martha L. |date=December 12, 1991 |url=https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-12-12-gl-566-story.html |title=Council Eyes Scaled-Down Transit Center : Transportation: Officials lean toward cutting the cost of railroad depot project by $1 million.
