Gnathophis codoniphorus is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[http://fishbase.mnhn.fr/summary/Gnathophis-codoniphorus.html Gnathophis codoniphorus] at www.fishbase.org. It was described by Günther Maul in 1972.Maul, G. E., 1972 [ref. 7628] On a new species of eel of the genus Gnathophis (Apodes, Congridae) from the Meteor Seamount. Bocagiana. Museu Municipal do Funchal (História Natural) No. 31: 1-7. It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel which is known from the Azorean slope at the Great Meteor Seamount, in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean. It dwells at a depth range of {{convert|300|-|304|m}}.
