Gnolus is a genus of South American orb-weaver spiders that was first described by Eugène Louis Simon in 1879.{{cite journal| last=Simon| first=E.| year=1879| title=Note sur les Epeiridae de la sous-famille des Arcyinae| journal=Annales de la Société Entomologique de Belgique| pages=55–61| volume=22| author-link=Eugène Simon}} Originally placed with the orb-weaving spiders, it was transferred to the pirate spiders in 1993,{{cite journal| last1=Platnick| first1=N.
