Gohad is a city and a municipality in Bhind district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. A town of historical importance it is situated close to the city of Gwalior. The Gohad Fort is located here.
History
The state's formation happened in the time period of Tomar dynasty of Gwalior. The Jats settled the town of Gohad and nearby forts and garhis (fortresses) in 16th century. The most renowned ruler was Maharaja Bhim Singh Rana who established the Jat rule over the trans chambal region and historic Gwalior fort. Murray. |language=en}} The most successful ruler of Gohad is meant to be Maharaja Chhatar Singh Rana also known as Rana Lokendra Singh. He repulsed Maratha raids on Gohad and other Jat forts many times. He even defeated Peshwa Raghunath Rao.
Geography
Gohad has an average elevation of 159 metres (521 feet). It is drained by Vaisali River which is a tributary of Sindh River and originate from Behat village in Gwalior region. Rural nallahs and Morar river (Kalpi River) are catchments of Vaisali River.
It features a high standing Gohad Dam which holds a fascinating view during Monsoon. The water of Gohad dam is supplied to Gohad town for drinking purpose.
Climate
Climate of Gohad is characterized by dryness except during south-west monsoon. It's is counted as most dry place in Madhya Pradesh.

Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Gohad has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 68%, and female literacy is 44%. In Gohad, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Gohad is a big tehsil, its area and population all are as per the eligibility of a district, the local people keep raising demand to make Godhad the district headquarters. For which a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister.
