Jockel joined Australia's diplomatic service in 1944.{{cite news|url=http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/107075078|title=Envoy to Indonesia|date=25 January 1969|newspaper=The Canberra Times|location=ACT|page=9}} Among other roles, he served in appointments as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Commissioner to Singapore, Ambassador to Indonesia and Ambassador to Thailand.

Awards
