Grammer is an unincorporated community in Rock Creek Township, Bartholomew County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.

History

A post office was established at Grammer in 1893 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1972.{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=IN&county=Bartholomew | title=Bartholomew County | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=27 August 2014}} Grammer was likely named for a railroad official.{{cite book|last=Baker|first=Ronald L.|title=From Needmore to Prosperity: Hoosier Place Names in Folklore and History|url=https://archive.org/details/fromneedmoretopr00bake|url-access=registration|date=October 1995|publisher=Indiana University Press|isbn=978-0-253-32866-3|page=[https://archive.org/details/fromneedmoretopr00bake/page/148 148]|quote=...allegedly the name comes from a railroad conductor.}} The town had two general stores operating simultaneously in the 1940s and 1950s as well as a barber shop and grain elevator. Grammer School, built in 1899, operated as a 1-8 school until consolidating with Rock Creek School in 1958.
