Etymology
The name Grevé does not mean anything; however, it sounds similar to the word greve, meaning 'duke' or 'count' in North Germanic languages. The cheese was created under the working name "Alpost" (Alp-cheese) and the producers wanted a name that would sound similar to Swiss cheese names, e.g. Gruyère.{{Cite web | url=http://www.ostforum.se/osthistoria/osthistoria/greveost.html | title=OstForum - Kunskapstorget i ostlig riktning | access-date=2018-03-08 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160303212755/http://www.ostforum.se/osthistoria/osthistoria/greveost.html | archive-date=2016-03-03 | url-status=dead }}{{cite web|url= http://www.foodsubs.com/Chesfirm.html|title =Emmental|website= foodsubs.com |access-date=March 1, 2020}}
