Reception

Next Generation reviewed the Macintosh version of the game, rating it three stars out of five, and stated that "Gridz is a fun, simple game, but after the sixth or seventh level, it gets a bit redundant. What elevates this game above mediocrity is an unusual clarity of purpose in graphics, control, and design."{{cite magazine|date=November 1997|title=Finals|url=https://archive.org/details/NEXT_Generation_35/page/n209/mode/2up|magazine=Next Generation|publisher=Imagine Media|issue=35|page=208}}

The editors of Macworld named Gridz the best arcade game of 1997. Steven Levy and Cameron Crotty of the magazine called the game "addictive" and "maddeningly compelling".{{cite web|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20011127213059/http://www.macworld.com/1998/01/features/4088.html |url=https://www.macworld.com:80/1998/01/features/4088.html |title=1998 Macintosh Game Hall of Fame |author1=Levy, Steven |author2=Crotty, Cameron |author-link1=Steven Levy |work=Macworld |date=January 1998 |archive-date=November 27, 2001 |url-status=dead }}
