On February 24, 2023, Nieves and another individual with a Guardians of Divinity sign were part of a small anti-DSH protest outside of the Jackson Heights branch of the Queens Public Library, which consisted of about six to ten anti-DSH protesters, and was met by about 100 counterprotesters outside who supported the DSH event in the library.{{Cite news |last=Warnock |first=Kathleen |date=2023-02-25 |title=Community stands up for Drag Story Hour in Jackson Heights |language=en-US |work=Gay City News |url=https://gaycitynews.com/community-stands-up-drag-story-hour-jackson-heights/ |access-date=2023-02-25}}{{Cite news |last=Parry |first=Bill |date=2023-02-24 |title=Drag Story Hour supporters greatly outnumber protesters at Jackson Heights library event Friday – QNS.com |language=en-US |work=QNS |url=https://qns.com/2023/02/drag-story-hour-supporters-greatly-outnumber-protesters-at-jackson-heights-library-event-friday/ |access-date=2023-02-25}}
