Guldbollen (Golden Ball) is a Swedish football award given by Aftonbladet and the Swedish Football Association to the best male Swedish footballer each year.
History
The award was created by Bengt Liljedahl{{cite web|url=https://mitti.se/nyheter/bengt-ar-smeden-som-gor-zlatans-guldbollar/|title=Bengt är smeden som gör Zlatans guldbollar|date=11 November 2024|last=Jahnson|first=Therese|publisher=Mitt i|access-date=12 September 2020}} and between 1946 and 1965 it was awarded in cooperation with Stockholms-Tidningen.{{Cite web|url=https://fogis.se/fotbollsgalan/tidigare-vinnare/guldbollen/|title=Guldbollen|website=Fogis.se|publisher=Swedish Football Association|access-date=12 September 2020}}
The first Guldbollen award was given in 1946 to Gunnar Gren.{{cite web|url=http://wwwc.aftonbladet.se/sport/guldbollen/1946.html|title=1946: Gunnar Gren, IFK Göteborg|publisher=Aftonbladet|access-date=12 September 2020}} In 1973, Bo Larsson of Malmö FF became the first player to win the award for a second time, having previously won it in 1965. Zlatan Ibrahimović is the only player to win the award more than twice, winning it twelve times between 2005 and 2020.{{cite web|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/11/22/zlatan-ibrahimovic-honoured-statue-david-beckham-calls-one-greatest/|title=Zlatan Ibrahimovic to be honoured with statue as David Beckham calls him 'one of the greatest ever'|publisher=The Telegraph|date=22 November 2016 |access-date=25 December 2016}}
The female equivalent of the award, Diamantbollen, was established in 1990. Both Guldbollen and Diamantbollen are now awarded at the Fotbollsgalan.
