The program allows users to take screenshots and upload them to the web, producing a unique URL to view the uploaded image.{{cite web|url=http://thommck.wordpress.com/2010/11/12/capture-and-upload-screenshots-in-an-instant-with-gyazo|title=Capture and upload screenshots in an instant with Gyazo|accessdate=February 22, 2013|date=November 12, 2010|publisher=thommck}} The program's name "Gyazo" is a pun on the Japanese word for {{nihongo|"image"|画像|gazō}}.
