The gyrA RNA motif is a conserved RNA structure identified by bioinformatics.{{cite journal |vauthors=Weinberg Z, Wang JX, Bogue J, etal |title=Comparative genomics reveals 104 candidate structured RNAs from bacteria, archaea and their metagenomes |journal=Genome Biol |volume=11 |issue=3 |pages=R31 |date=March 2010 |pmid=20230605 |doi=10.1186/gb-2010-11-3-r31 |pmc=2864571 |doi-access=free }} The RNAs are present in multiple species of bacteria within the order Pseudomonadales. This order contains the genus Pseudomonas, which includes the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas syringae, a plant pathogen.

gyrA RNAs are always found in the presumed 5' untranslated regions of gyrA genes, which encodes a protein forming a subunit of a DNA gyrase. Resistance to the antibiotic ciprofloxacin in Pseudomonas is often achieved via mutations in the gyrA gene.{{cite journal |author=Bonomo RA, Szabo D |title=Mechanisms of multidrug resistance in Acinetobacter species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa |journal=Clin. Infect. Dis. |volume=43 |pages=S49–56 |date=September 2006 |issue=Suppl 2 |pmid=16894515 |doi=10.1086/504477 |doi-access=free }} Because of its positioning, the gyrA RNA motif was hypothesized to be a cis-regulatory element acting up the downstream gyrA genes. However, gyrA was previously regarded as a gene whose level of expression is consistent in a wide variety of growth conditions.{{cite journal |vauthors=Vencato M, Tian F, Alfano JR, etal |title=Bioinformatics-enabled identification of the HrpL regulon and type III secretion system effector proteins of Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola 1448A |journal=Mol.
