History

The Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic methods of exercise were developed by Juliu Horvath.{{cite web |title=The Gyrotronic and Gyrokinesis Methods |url=https://www.gyrotonic.com/about/ |access-date=2023-08-31 |website=girotonic.com}}{{cite web |title=Gyrotonic: The Most Intelligent Workout You've Never Heard Of |url=https://chicagohealthonline.com/gyrotonic-the-most-intelligent-workout-youve-never-heard-of/ |access-date=2023-09-01 |website=Chicago Health Magazine|date=14 July 2019 }}

In New York City in the early 1980s, Horvath started sharing his exercise technique at Steps dance studio on Broadway, and in Central Park. First calling it the Julio Horvath Method, he later chose a combination of the Greek words for "circling" (Gyro) and "stretch" (Tonic).{{Cite web |last=Murphy |first=Ann |date=November 2003 |title=Circling In On Gyrotonic |url=https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Circling+in+on+Gyrotonic%5BR%5D%3A+it%27s+tempting+to+compare+the...-a0110266509}}
