History

Härnösand city's first church was built 1593. The four chandeliers are from the 17th century. In 1721 the church was burned down by Russian troops, and a new church was erected, and that church was eventually destroyed. The present church was inaugurated on 28 June 1846{{cite web|url=https://collectiveaccess.murberget.se/media/ylm_ca_system/images/1/2/7/2/49177_ca_object_representations_media_127250_original.pdf|title=Härnösands domkyrka|publisher=Västernorrland County Museum|author=Bodil Mascher|page=7|language=Swedish|date=2014|accessdate=2 February 2021|archive-date=6 February 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210206054308/https://collectiveaccess.murberget.se/media/ylm_ca_system/images/1/2/7/2/49177_ca_object_representations_media_127250_original.pdf|url-status=dead}} and built according to plans by Johan Adolf Hawerman (1812-1885).{{cite web|url=https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/harnosand/domkyrkan|title=Härnösands domkyrka|publisher=Church of Sweden|language=Swedish|accessdate=2 February 2021}} The present church is located in the same location as the original and is Sweden's smallest cathedral.{{cite web|url= https://kulturnav.org/9e595989-6bbb-472b-b9f7-533984fda347 |title = Hawerman, John (1812-1885)|website=KulturNav|access-date=1 January 2020}}

The altar painting is by David von Coln (1689–1763). The baptismal font is a Spanish rococo work in silver and manufactured 1777. The organ was built in 1975 by the Danish firm of Bruno Christensen & Sønner Orgelbyggeri and has 57 stops. The organ facade is from the 1700s Cahman organ that was saved from the original church.{{cite web|url= http://www.artnet.com/artists/david-von-coln/ |title = David von Coln|website= artnet.com|access-date=1 January 2020}}{{cite web|url= http://www.bruno-christensen.dk/|title = Bruno Christensen & Sønner Orgelbyggeri|website= bruno-christensen.dk|access-date=1 January 2020}}{{cite web|url=https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/harnosanddomkyrko/domkyrkan|title=Härnösands domkyrka|publisher=Church of Sweden|language=Swedish|accessdate=14 October 2017}}

The cathedral contains a 37-bell carillon, built by the {{ill|Bergholtz Bellfoundry|sv|Bergholtz klockgjuteri}} in 1981.{{Cite web |title=Svenske konsertklokkespill |trans-title=Swedish carillons |website=Nordisk selskap for campanologi og klokkespill [Nordic Society for Campanology and Carillons] |language=no |url=https://www.nsck.org/sverige |access-date=2022-07-05}}
