He was Energy Minister for 8 years during Mohammad Khatami presidency.{{cite book |title=Factional politics in post-Khomeini Iran |last=Moslem |first=Mehdi |page=325 |year=2002 |publisher=Syracuse University Press |isbn=978-0-8156-2978-8 }} He also served as provincial governor of Yazd.
