Hadleigh Hamlet was formerly a civil parish in Suffolk, England. It included part of the village of Boxford and rural areas to the north-east of Boxford, including the hamlet of Wicker Street Green. The parish was abolished in 1935, when its area was divided between Boxford and Kersey.

History

Hadleigh Hamlet was historically a detached part of the ancient parish and manor of Hadleigh. By the 16th century, Hadleigh Hamlet had become part of the ecclesiastical parish of Boxford, whilst remaining part of the manor of Hadleigh.{{cite book |editor1-last=Northeast |editor1-first=Peter |title=Boxford Churchwardens' Accounts 1530–1561 |date=1982 |publisher=Suffolk Records Society |location=Woodbridge |isbn=0851151604 |pages=xii, xvi |url=https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Boxford_Churchwardens_Accounts_1530_1561/ZvC_S8HeJaIC?hl=en&gbpv=1&pg=PR12&printsec=frontcover |access-date=15 January 2025}}

From the 17th century onwards, parishes were gradually given various civil functions under the poor laws, in addition to their original ecclesiastical functions. The civil functions were sometimes exercised by subdivisions of the parish rather than the parish as a whole, including at Hadleigh Hamlet, which had its own overseers of the poor.{{cite book |title=Reports from Committees of the House of Commons: Volume 9 |date=1803 |page=461 |url=https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Reports_from_Committees_of_the_House_of/bC9DAAAAcAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&pg=PA461&printsec=frontcover |access-date=15 January 2025}} In 1866, the legal definition of 'parish' was changed to be the areas used for administering the poor laws, and so Hadleigh Hamlet became a civil parish.{{cite book |last1=Youngs |first1=Frederic |title=Guide to the Local Administrative Units of England |date=1979 |publisher=Royal Historical Society |location=London |isbn=0901050679 |page=xvi}}

In 1889 it became part of the administrative county of West Suffolk. When elected parish and district council were created in 1894 it became part of Cosford Rural District. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished. The majority of the area of the former parish, including Wicker Street Green, was added to Kersey parish.{{cite web|url=https://heritage.suffolk.gov.uk/media/pdfs/hadleighhamlet.pdf|title=Hadleigh Hamlet|publisher=Heritage Suffolk|accessdate=4 November 2020}} A smaller area was added to Boxford; the majority of the population was in the area added to Boxford, which included parts of Boxford village.{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10256458|title=Relationships and changes Hadleigh Hamlet Hmlt/CP through time|publisher=A Vision of Britain through Time|accessdate=4 November 2020}}
