As all traffic going northbound to Inverness via the A96 or southbound to Dundee via the A92 must pass through this roundabout it is a notoriously busy and hazardous junction with large queues approaching all directions to the roundabout, especially during rush hour.{{cite web|url=http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-14485916.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121026143439/http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-14485916.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=2012-10-26|publisher=Aberdeen Evening Express|title=Traffic hell gets worse|accessdate=2009-09-19}}{{cite web|url=http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-15225723.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121026143518/http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-15225723.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=2012-10-26|publisher=Aberdeen Evening Express|title=It's time to sort out the Haudagain and this time it's personal... |accessdate=2009-09-19}} It has been referred to as 'Scotland's worst roundabout'.{{cite web|url=http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/709590?UserKey=|publisher=The Press and Journal|title=Councillors back £14m Haudagain roundabout solution|accessdate=2009-09-19|archive-date=6 March 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120306040517/http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/709590?UserKey=|url-status=live}}

The construction of Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is aimed at reducing the congestion due to traffic passing through Aberdeen. In addition improvements are planned to help ease the congestion at the roundabout.{{cite web|url=http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/Consultations/cst_Haudagain.asp|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100110004919/https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/Consultations/cst_Haudagain.asp|url-status=dead|archive-date=2010-01-10|publisher=Aberdeen City Council|title=Haudagain Roundabout Stag Appraisal|accessdate=2020-09-11}}

Bypass

Following an evaluation of various options for improving traffic flow at the roundabout, a bypass to the south-west of the roundabout, linking the A92 and the A96, was selected. In 2008, this was expected to cost £14.5 million.{{cite web|url=http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/693511?UserKey=|publisher=Aberdeen Evening Express|title=Cheapest road for Aberdeen blackspot|accessdate=2009-09-19|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110726214558/http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/693511?UserKey=|archivedate=2011-07-26}} The project required 127 flats to be demolished, this occurred in 2018.{{Cite web|url=https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/haudagain-flats-demolition-work-to-be-over-by-end-of-year1/|title=Haudagain flats demolition work to be over 'by end of year'|last=Merson|first=Adele|website=Evening Express|language=en-US|access-date=2020-01-03|archive-date=3 January 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200103202626/https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/haudagain-flats-demolition-work-to-be-over-by-end-of-year1/|url-status=live}} In December 2019, Farrans Construction was appointed as contractor for the project.
