Later updates to the game included She-Ra as a second playable character, and King Hiss as a new boss.{{cite news |title= New Update Introduces She-Ra To 'He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe'! |first= Don |last= Hatfield |publisher= MTV |date= 6 December 2012 |url= http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2012/12/06/new-update-introduces-she-ra-to-he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe/ |access-date= 17 December 2012 |archive-date= 6 January 2013 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130106030231/http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2012/12/06/new-update-introduces-she-ra-to-he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe |url-status= dead }}{{cite news|title= He-Man Update Adds Battle Armor, King Hsss|publisher= Modojo.com|first= Chris|last= Buffa|url= http://www.modojo.com/news/2013-03-21-he-man-update-adds-battle-armor-king-hsss|access-date= 15 April 2013|archive-date= 26 March 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130326132304/http://www.modojo.com/news/2013-03-21-he-man-update-adds-battle-armor-king-hsss|url-status= dead}}

The game gained a mixed reception from critics. It currently holds a score of 69 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on eleven reviews,{{cite web|url=https://www.metacritic.com/game/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe/critic-reviews/?platform=ios-iphoneipad|title=He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe|publisher=Metacritic|access-date=19 June 2013|archive-date=28 January 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130128133812/http://www.metacritic.com/game/ios/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe|url-status=live}} and a score of 67.30% on GameRankings, based on ten reviews.{{cite web|url=http://www.gamerankings.com/iphone/687522-he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe/index.html|title=He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe|publisher=GameRankings|access-date=23 June 2013|archive-date=10 May 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130510184727/http://www.gamerankings.com/iphone/687522-he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe/index.html|url-status=live}}
IGN's Justin Davis was unimpressed, scoring the game 6.8 out of 10 and concluding that "beating up on Merman and the rest of Skeletor's thugs is fun, but He-Man isn't fast or fluid enough to truly stand as an App Store great. The game is a great nostalgia trip, and at its best it recalls greats like Gunstar Heroes. But it never quite overcomes its control issues or its by-the-numbers design."{{cite news|title= Nostalgia isn't everything.|publisher= IGN|first=Justin|last= Davis|date=25 October 2012|url= http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/10/25/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe-review|access-date=29 October 2012}}
On the other hand, Pocket Gamer's Harry Slater was extremely enthusiastic, scoring the game 9 out of 10; "GlitchSoft's new iOS cartoon adventure has all the hacking, slashing, and furry pants any child of the '80s could want, plus enough sly winks and in-jokes to satisfy the He-Man diehards. Throw in a clever control scheme and a decent challenge, and you're left with an utterly brilliant blast from the past [...] He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is a brilliantly put-together action-platforming romp, with a knowing sense of humour and enough winks and nods to keep fans of the original cartoon grinning from ear to ear. Fun, funny, and wonderfully constructed, He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is a fitting homage to your childhood memories."{{cite news|title= 'He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe' Review|publisher= Pocket Gamer|first= Harry|last= Slater|date= 30 October 2012|url= http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/He-Man%3A+The+Most+Powerful+Game+in+the+Universe/review.asp?c=46154|access-date= 31 May 2013|archive-date= 26 March 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130326235027/http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/He-Man%3A+The+Most+Powerful+Game+in+the+Universe/review.asp?c=46154|url-status= live}}
TouchArcade's Spanner Spencer also responded positively, scoring the game 4.5 out 5, and arguing "it is rife with lavish quirks, nods and winks toward those of us who grew up taking this stuff so seriously, but can now look back at it with a wry and friendly smile. By casually lampooning itself, He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is entirely accessible to both the young and old alike."{{cite news|title= 'He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe' Review – Buy the Power of Grayskull.|publisher= TouchArcade|first= Spanner|last= Spencer|date= 25 October 2012|url= http://toucharcade.com/2012/10/25/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe-review-%E2%80%93-buy-the-power-of-grayskull/|access-date= 31 May 2013|archive-date= 17 May 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130517051041/http://toucharcade.com/2012/10/25/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe-review-%e2%80%93-buy-the-power-of-grayskull/|url-status= live}}
Gamezebo's Nadia Oxford was also impressed, scoring the game 4 out of 5, despite its shallowness; "He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is a whole lot of brainless sword-swinging, and sometimes that's all you want out of a game. The levels are repetitive and the enemies have no AI to speak of, but slicing through the robot tide admittedly gives you a comforting sense of progression [...] He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe is shallow and straightforward, but it's fun. In fact, it's the most fun you can have with He-Man outside of re-watching your grainy VHS collection or engaging in grownup He-Man roleplay."{{cite news|title= 'He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe' Review|publisher= Gamezebo|first= Nadia|last= Oxford|date= 31 October 2012|url= http://www.gamezebo.com/games/he-man-most-powerful-game-universe/review|access-date= 19 June 2013|archive-date= 28 July 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130728090024/http://www.gamezebo.com/games/he-man-most-powerful-game-universe/review|url-status= live}}
SlideToPlay's David Oxford scored the game 3 out of 4, concluding "He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe isn't a perfect game, but it's fun to play despite its flaws. Moreover, if you're a big fan of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, you'll enjoy it that much more."{{cite news|title= He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe Review.|first= David|last= Oxford|publisher= SlideToPlay|date= 25 October 2012|url= http://www.slidetoplay.com/review/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe-review/|access-date= 31 May 2013|archive-date= 19 May 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130519024827/http://www.slidetoplay.com/review/he-man-the-most-powerful-game-in-the-universe-review/|url-status= live}}
