Career
Of her childhood and relationship with books, Hebe Uhart relates:
{{Quote|In my house I did not have access to reading – just some of my brother's books, which were very theological. I was not encouraged to write; nobody asked me or forced me to write. But, surely, there must have been an underground stimulus, something that is in the houses because, if not, why did my mother tell me so many stories? Until a cousin, more cultured, told me: "You have to read Neruda, Guillén and Vallejo." And I read them. Then I entered the Faculty of Philosophy and started to bond with other wise people with whom I talked about books.{{Cite news |url=https://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/cultura/7-43215-2004-11-05.html |title=Mis cuentos son domésticos, aunque agrego disparates |trans-title=My Stories are Domestic, Although I Add Nonsense |first=Silvina |last=Friera |work=Página/12 |language=Spanish |date=5 November 2004 |access-date=4 August 2018}}}}
She studied Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Later she worked as a teacher, both at primary and secondary level, and university at the UBA and the National University of Lomas de Zamora.{{Cite news |url=https://www.lacapital.com.ar/ed_senales/2010/8/edicion_93/contenidos/noticia_5061.html |title=Lo específico de las personas |trans-title=The Specifics of People |first=María Teresa |last=Andruetto |work=La Capital |language=Spanish |date=8 August 2010 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20121229211806/http://www.lacapital.com.ar/ed_senales/2010/8/edicion_93/contenidos/noticia_5061.html |archive-date=29 December 2012 |url-status=dead |access-date=4 August 2018 }}
