Promotion and release

Hel was released in 2019, six years after the band's seventh album, Valkyrja. On 10 January 2019, the group streamed a single titled "Fire and Flame",{{cite magazine |date=10 January 2019 |title=Týr Set March Release Date for Hel Album; "Fire and Flame" Lyric Video Streaming |url=https://bravewords.com/news/tyr-set-march-release-date-for-hel-album-fire-and-flame-lyric-video-streaming |magazine=BW&BK}} which predated the album and was included in it two months later.{{cite web |title=Týr reveals details for new album, 'Hel' |url=https://www.metalblade.com/us/news/tyr-reveals-details-for-new-album-hel/ |accessdate=25 March 2021 |publisher=Metal Blade Records}}

Production for the album was long due to the band's tours with Children of Bodom in North America and participation with 70000 Tons of Metal while on a cruise.{{cite web|url=https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/tyr-to-release-hel-album-in-march/|title=TÝR To Release 'Hel' Album In March|website=Blabbermouth.net|date=10 January 2019|accessdate=25 March 2021}}
