Hooker is a Christian, stating it was a "blessing" to have parents who got him and his siblings to be active in church at an early age. Hooker has credited his parents for his work ethic. He says his dad’s influence and mentorship while serving in the youth ministry at their church has helped him understand he "can use the game [football] to spread the message of Jesus Christ".{{Cite web |last=Warren |first=Steve |date=February 17, 2022 |title='Use the Game to...Spread the Word of Jesus Christ': TN Star QB Hendon Hooker on Faith, Family, Hard Work |url=https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/entertainment/2022/february/use-the-game-to-spread-the-word-of-jesus-christ-tn-star-qb-hendon-hooker-on-faith-family-hard-work |access-date=July 14, 2022 |website=CBN News |archive-date=July 14, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220714171049/https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/entertainment/2022/february/use-the-game-to-spread-the-word-of-jesus-christ-tn-star-qb-hendon-hooker-on-faith-family-hard-work |url-status=live }}

With his knowledge of the Bible and a desire to influence the younger generation and his younger cousin Landon, Hooker and his brother, Alston, created a children's book called The ABCs of Scripture for Athletes. Hendon’s goal was for the work to be "a positive influence in the lives of kids in his community.” The book uses a sports themed alphabet to help kids learn scripture.{{Cite web |last=Sparks |first=Adam |date=December 23, 2021 |title=The story behind Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker's faith-based children's book |url=https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/college/university-of-tennessee/2021/12/23/hendon-hooker-childrens-book-tennessee-football-quarterback-bible/6493896001/ |url-access=limited |access-date=July 14, 2022 |website=Knoxville News Sentinel |archive-date=November 13, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221113150111/https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/college/university-of-tennessee/2021/12/23/hendon-hooker-childrens-book-tennessee-football-quarterback-bible/6493896001/ |url-status=live }}
