History
The district previously operated High Bridge High School. The school first opened circa 1903. In October 1972, voters agreed to place the district's high school students at North Hunterdon Regional High School, making High Bridge the twelfth community participating in the regional district. High Bridge High closed in 1973; at the time there were 180 students, and 39 students had graduated in the final graduation.Meddis, Sam|. [https://www.newspapers.com/clip/133868663/ "An era ends in High Bridge"], Courier News, June 15, 1973, page B1. Accessed March 23, 2025, via Newspapers.com. "Last night's commencement exercises here symbolized the end of an era for one of the state's tiniest high schools. The 39 seniors who received their diplomas are the last graduates of High Bridge High, and the school's 70 year history came to what many long-time residents must feel is a regrettable finale.... Faced with the immediate prospect of having to construct a new school to relieve overcrowding and to accommodate anticipated increased enrollment, residents opted in October's school referendum to merge with nearby North Hunterdon Regional High School." In 1975, high school students from High Bridge, with the exception of students in twelfth grade, were switched to Voorhees High School.Hagemann, Donna. [https://www.newspapers.com/clip/133869357/ "Boundaries split districts"], Courier News'', September 18, 1974, page B-6. Accessed March 25, 2025, via Newspapers.com "Municipal boundaries dictated the division announced last night by the North Hunterdon Regional High School Board of Education, determining which students will attend the new Voorhees Campus in Lebanon Township next fall. According to the plan drawn up by an ad hoc committee, students living in Lebanon Township, Califon, High Bridge and Tewksbury will attend the new school."
