Critical reception
Pan-European magazine Music & Media wrote that "Hold On (If You Believe in Love)" "is more or less styled after the golden age of Stock. Aitken & Waterman".{{cite magazine|url= https://www.americanradiohistory.com/UK/Music-and-Media/90s/1993/MM-1993-09-25.pdf |title= New Releases: Singles |magazine= Music & Media |volume= 10 |issue= 39 |page= 16 |date= 25 September 1993 |accessdate= 19 April 2020}} They later added, "Whereas all competitors use hordes of female backing vocalists and a male rapper, a cheap sequencer, a simple pop song and his own voice is all this Euro dance singer needs."{{cite magazine|first= |last= |title= New Releases: Singles |magazine= Music & Media |volume= 11 |issue= 21 |page= 20 |date= 21 May 1994 |accessdate= 12 March 2021 |url= https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Music-and-Media/90s/1994/MM-1994-05-21.pdf}} A reviewer from Music Week gave it three out of five, commenting, "CB's excellent debut single "It's a Loving Thing" deserved more chart glory than its number 32 peak. The follow-up, in the same frantic Eurobeat vein, will do well to go higher."{{cite magazine|first= |last= |title= Reviews: Singles |magazine= Music Week |date= 8 July 1995 |page= 10 |accessdate= 10 May 2021 |url= https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Music-Week/1995/Music-Week-1995-07-08.pdf}} James Hamilton from the RM Dance Update declared it as a "doubtless smashbound gruffy melodic exciting Belgia galloper from the 2 Unlimited stable".{{cite magazine|first= James |last= Hamilton |url= https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Music-Week/1994/Music-Week-1994-07-16.pdf |title= Dj directory |magazine= Music Week, in Record Mirror (Dance Update Supplemental insert) |date= 16 July 1994 |page= 6 |accessdate= 19 April 2021 |author-link= James Hamilton (DJ and journalist)}}
