The Hongping Pumped Storage Power Station ({{zh|洪屏抽水蓄能电站}}) is a 1,200 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power station located at about {{Convert|11|km|mi|abbr=on}} northwest of Hongping in Jing'an County of Jiangxi Province, China. It was the first pumped-storage hydroelectric power station constructed in Jiangxi.

It is operated by Jiangxi Hongping Pumped Storage Ltd.{{cite web | url=http://www.sgcc.com.cn/ywlm/gsyw-e/232055.shtml | title=Jiangxi Hong Ping Pumped Storage Power Station to Be Constructed | publisher=State Grid Corporate of China | date=7 June 2010 | accessdate=26 July 2014}}

Construction

The project was split into two phases, with first phase resulting in 1,200MW of installed capacity. Construction on the project's first phase began in June 2010. The first generator was commissioned in June 2014 and by December 2016, all the four 300MW generators were commissioned, marking the end of the first phase.{{Cite web |title=江西洪屏抽水蓄能电站获评国家优质工程金质奖_施工 |url=https://www.sohu.com/a/280250021_313287 |access-date=2022-04-26 |website=www.sohu.com |language=en}}

In 2021, a feasibility study on the second phase of the project was begun.{{Cite web |title=江西靖安洪屏二期工程进入可研招标-新华网 |url=http://www.jx.xinhuanet.com/2021-07/30/c_1127714138.htm |access-date=2022-04-26 |website=www.jx.xinhuanet.com}} The study completed in November 2022 and the second phase project, which plans to add an additional total capacity of 1,800 MW to the power station, was deemed feasible. {{cite web |title=江西洪屏抽水蓄能电站二期工程 可行性研究报告审查通过 |url=https://c.m.163.com/news/a/HM3A5OBQ0530QRMB.html |website=c.m.163.com |publisher=网易新闻 |access-date=11 December 2022 |language=zh}} When fully operational, the power station will have an installed capacity of 3,000 MW.

Reservoirs

The lower reservoir is created by a {{Convert|77.5|m|ft|abbr=on}} tall and {{Convert|181.25|m|ft|abbr=on}} long roller-compacted concrete gravity dam on the Hebei River. It can withhold up to {{Convert|54140000|m3|acre.ft|abbr=on}} of water, of which {{Convert|35470000|m3|acre.ft|abbr=on}} can be pumped to the upper reservoir. The upper reservoir is created by a {{Convert|44|m|ft|abbr=on}} tall and {{Convert|107|m|ft|abbr=on}} long concrete gravity dam. It can withhold up to {{Convert|27060000|m3|acre.ft|abbr=on}} of water, of which {{Convert|6300000|m3|acre.ft|abbr=on}} can be used for power production. Water from the upper reservoir is sent to the underground power station down near the lower reservoir through two {{Convert|1318.2|-|1296.5|m|ft|abbr=on}} long headrace/penstock pipes. The power station contains four 300 MW Francis pump turbines. The difference in elevation between the upper and lower reservoir affords a hydraulic head (water drop) of {{Convert|528|m|ft|0|abbr=on}}.{{cite web | url=http://www.ecidi.com/Uploadfile/radE840F.pdf | title=Jiangxi Hongping Pumped Storage Power Station shorthand for the environmental impact report | publisher=Huadong Engineering Corporation | accessdate=26 July 2014 | language=Chinese}}
