The Hotlum Glacier is a glacier situated on the northeast flank of Mount Shasta, in the US state of California. It is the largest and most voluminous glacier in California, although not as thick or long as the nearby Whitney Glacier.{{cite web | last = Driedger | first = Carolyn L. | author2 = Kennard, Paul M. | url = https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/usgspubs/pp/pp1365 | title = Ice volumes on Cascade volcanoes; Mount Rainier, Mount Hood, Three Sisters, and Mount Shasta | publisher = U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 1365 | year = 1986 | access-date = 2007-03-06 | archive-date = May 11, 2009 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20090511053740/http://pubs.er.usgs.gov/usgspubs/pp/pp1365 | url-status = dead }} The Hotlum Glacier flows from a large cirque on the northeast side of Mount Shasta's main summit below the Hotlum Headwall at roughly {{convert|13600|ft|abbr=on}}.Google Earth elevation for GNIS coordinates It flows northeastward down the steep slope, forming three lobes which terminate near {{convert|10400|ft|abbr=on}}.

In 2002, scientists made the first detailed survey of Mount Shasta's glaciers in 50 years. They found that seven of the glaciers have grown over the period 1951–2002, with the Hotlum and Wintun Glaciers nearly doubling, the Bolam Glacier increasing by half, and the Whitney and Konwakiton Glaciers growing by a third.{{cite book | last = Harris | first = Stephen L. | title = Fire Mountains of the West: The Cascade and Mono Lake Volcanoes (3rd ed.) | publisher = Mountain Press Publishing Company | year = 2005 | pages = 109 | isbn = 0-87842-511-X }}{{cite web|last=Wong |first=Kathleen |title=California Glaciers |work=California Wild |publisher=California Academy of Sciences |url=http://www.calacademy.org/calwild/2005fall/stories/glaciers.html |access-date=2007-01-23 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20061006102003/http://www.calacademy.org/calwild/2005fall/stories/glaciers.html |archive-date=October 6, 2006 |url-status=dead |df=mdy-all }}{{cite news|last=Whitney |first=David |title=A growing glacier: Mount Shasta bucks global trend, and researchers cite warming phenomena |publisher=The Bee |date=September 4, 2006 |url=http://dwb.sacbee.com/content/news/story/14317368p-15234887c.html |access-date=2007-01-23 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070121071019/http://dwb.sacbee.com/content/news/story/14317368p-15234887c.html |archive-date=January 21, 2007 |url-status=dead |df=mdy-all }}
