How to Photograph an Atomic Bomb is a history and photography book written by Peter Kuran and published in 2006 by VCE.

Description

It documents the stories of the men who photographed US nuclear weapons tests between 1945–1963 and the techniques they used to capture nuclear blasts on film. The book contains 250 photos and 12 technical diagrams, some of which were previously classified.{{cite web|url=http://www.atomcentral.com/atomic-bomb-book.aspx |title=How to Photograph an Atomic Bomb |publisher=AtomCentral.com |date= |accessdate=2012-07-06}} Research on the book began while Kuran was working as an animator for Star Wars. He was able to interview and collect material from photographers who witnessed the blasts, whom he calls unrecognized patriots.{{cite web|last=Broad|first=William J.|title=The Bomb Chroniclers|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/14/science/14atom.html?pagewanted=all|work=The New York Times|accessdate=6 July 2012|date=13 September 2010}}{{cite web |author=Sergiu Vidican |url=http://www.metrolic.com/the-atomic-filmmakers-128815/ |title=The Atomic Filmmakers |publisher=Metrolic |date=2010-09-15 |accessdate=2012-07-06 |archive-date=2013-01-29 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130129174643/http://www.metrolic.com/the-atomic-filmmakers-128815/ |url-status=dead }}
