The Hughes 24 is a Canadian trailerable sailboat that was designed by William Shaw as a cruiser and first built in 1966.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/hughes-24|title= Hughes 24 sailboat|access-date= 21 June 2022|last= McArthur|first= Bruce|work= sailboatdata.com|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220621002050/https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/hughes-24|archive-date= 21 June 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/hughes/24|title= Hughes 24|access-date= 21 June 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220621002000/https://sailboat.guide/hughes/24|archive-date= 21 June 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/designer/shaw-william|title= William Shaw 1926 – 2006|access-date= 21 June 2022|last= McArthur|first= Bruce|work= sailboatdata.com|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20210313154758/https://sailboatdata.com/designer/shaw-william|archive-date= 13 March 2021|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/william-shaw|title= William Shaw|access-date= 21 June 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220612153650/https://sailboat.guide/william-shaw|archive-date= 12 June 2022|url-status= live}}
The boat is a development of Shaw's Nutmeg 24 design, which was built by Tanzer Industries and was likely built from the same moulds.
The design was developed into the much more commercially successful Hughes 25 in 1968, likely by modifying the existing moulds.
Production
The design was built by Hughes Boat Works in Canada, starting as a 1966 model year and was in fact their first keelboat design built in the new factory in Scarborough, Ontario. It was only built in small numbers.{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/hughes-boat-works|title = Hughes Boat Works|access-date = 21 June 2022|last = McArthur|first = Bruce|work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url = https://archive.today/20210218150407/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/hughes-boat-works|archive-date = 18 February 2021|url-status = live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/hughes|title= Hughes Boat Works|access-date= 21 June 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220530135310/https://sailboat.guide/hughes|archive-date= 30 May 2022|url-status= live}}
Design

The boat has a draft of {{convert|5.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the centreboard extended and {{convert|2.75|ft|m|abbr=on}} with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water or ground transportation on a trailer.
The design has a hull speed of {{convert|5.76|kn|km/h|abbr=on}}.
