History
The village was first mentioned between 822 and 856 as "in Hustinga". The etymology is unclear.{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/huizinge |title=Huizinge - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=7 April 2022 |language=nl}} Huizinge is a terp (artificial living hill) village with a grid like structure. Part of the terp was later excavated.{{cite web|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu04_01/sten009monu04_01_0048.php |title=Huizinge |author=Ronald Stenvert & Redmer Alma |location=Zwolle |publisher=Waanders |year=1998 |isbn=90 400 9258 3 |language=nl |access-date=7 April 2022}}
The Dutch Reformed church dates from the 13th century. The 14th-century tower was enlarged in 1847, but replaced again in 1868 by the current tower, because the structure leaked and the wood started to rot.
Huizinge was home to 263 people in 1840.{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/huizinge |title=Huizinge |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=7 April 2022 |language=nl}}
