Human Epigenome Project
Human Epigenome Project (HEP) is a multinational science project, with the stated aim to "identify, catalog, and interpret genome-wide DNA methylation patterns of all human genes in all major tissues".{{cite web |title=Description Page |publisher=Human Epigenome Project |url=http://www.epigenome.org/index.php?page=project |access-date=2009-01-30 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20091010234059/http://www.epigenome.org/index.php?page=project |archive-date=2009-10-10 |url-status=dead }} It is financed by government funds as well as private investment, via a consortium of genetic research organisations.
The call for such a project was widely suggested and supported by cancer research scientists from all over the world.{{cite journal |author=Esteller M |title=The necessity of a human epigenome project |journal=Carcinogenesis |year=2006 |volume=27 |issue=6 |pages=1121–1125 |pmid=16699174 |doi=10.1093/carcin/bgl033|doi-access=free }}{{cite journal |author=Jones PA, Martienssen R |title=A blueprint for a Human Epigenome Project: the AACR Human Epigenome Workshop |journal=Cancer Res |year=2005 |volume=65 |issue=24 |pages=11241–11246 |pmid=16357125 |doi=10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-05-3865|doi-access=free }}{{cite journal |author=Rauscher FJ 3rd |title=It is time for a Human Epigenome Project |journal=Cancer Res |year=2005 |volume=65 |issue=24 |page=11229 |pmid=16357122 |doi=10.1158/0008-5472.can-65-24-ed1|doi-access=free }}{{cite journal |author=Bradbury J |title=Human epigenome project--up and running |journal=PLOS Biol |year=2003 |volume=1 |issue=3 |page=E82 |pmid=14691553 |doi=10.1371/journal.pbio.0000082 |pmc=300691 |doi-access=free }}
