The Hummel H5 is an American amateur-built aircraft, designed by Morry Hummel and produced by Hummel Aviation. The aircraft is supplied as a kit or plans for amateur construction.Vandermeullen, Richard: 2012 Kit Aircraft Buyer's Guide, Kitplanes, Volume 28, Number 12, December 2011, page 56. Design and development

The H5 is a development of the Hummel Ultracruiser Plus and has a gross weight that is heavier than the original Hummel Bird.{{cite web|url = http://www.flyhummel.com/index.htm|title = The New H5|accessdate = 14 November 2012|last = Hummel Aviation|year = 2007|archive-date = November 8, 2012|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20121108020800/http://www.flyhummel.com/index.htm|url-status = dead}}

The H5 features a cantilever low-wing, a single-seat enclosed cockpit under a bubble canopy, fixed conventional landing gear, or optionally tricycle landing gear, and a single engine in tractor configuration. The cockpit is {{convert|24.5|in|cm|0|abbr=on}} wide.

The aircraft is made from sheet aluminum. Its {{convert|22.5|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} (optionally {{convert|25|ft|m|1|abbr=on}}) span wing employs a Harry Ribblett GA30-618 airfoil and has an area of {{convert|100|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}. The aircraft's recommended engine power range is {{convert|60|to|85|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} and standard engines used include the {{convert|60|to|85|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} Volkswagen air-cooled engine four-stroke. Construction time from the supplied kit is estimated as 420 hours.

Operational history

By December 2011 twelve examples had been completed and flown.
