Critical reception
Alli Patton of Holler called the song an "all-out anthem," noting "hearty rhythms, exuberant chords and distant harmonies". She added that the track's "uplifting, carefree sound" is something that "doesn't quite mirror the turbulence stirring between the words".{{cite web|url=https://holler.country/news/general/hundred-mile-high-by-cameron-whitcomb-lyrics-and-meaning/|title='Hundred Mile High' by Cameron Whitcomb - Lyrics & Meaning|first=Alli|last=Patton|work=Holler|date=January 30, 2025|access-date=February 13, 2025}} Clare Gehlich of Melodic Magazine favourably reviewed the track, opining that Whitcomb's "wildly colourful yet deeply lived-in storytelling takes hold" in "Hundred Mile High.{{cite web|url=https://www.melodicmag.com/2025/01/31/cameron-whitcombs-hundred-mile-high-is-a-rush-he-cant-resist/|title=Cameron Whitcomb’s “Hundred Mile High” is a rush he can’t resist|work=Melodic Magazine|date=January 31, 2025|access-date=February 13, 2025|first=Clare|last=Gehlich}}
