ICEM Surf is a computer-aided industrial design (a.k.a. CAID) software used for creating 3D digital surfaces for automotive design and industrial design.{{cite web|url=http://www10.mcadcafe.com/nbc/articles/view_article.php?articleid=69138|title=ICEM Announces Viewer Software for ICEM Surf Surface Models and Digital Mock-up Visualizations Over the Internet|website=MCADCafe}} This software is used to create class A surfaces using the Bézier surface modeling method. ICEMSurf was later purchased by Dassault Systèmes.{{cite web|url=http://www.digitaleng.news/de/icem-surf-4-6-released/|title=ICEM Surf 4.6 Released – Digital Engineering|website=www.digitaleng.news|date=October 2006 }}{{cite web|url=http://www.cadalyst.com/manufacturing/cadalyst-labs-review-icem-surf-45-10555|title=Cadalyst Labs Review: ICEM Surf 4.5 – Cadalyst|website=www.cadalyst.com|access-date=2017-07-27|archive-date=2017-07-31|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170731234201/http://www.cadalyst.com/manufacturing/cadalyst-labs-review-icem-surf-45-10555|url-status=dead}}{{Cite web |url=http://www.nanco.se/pdf/icem/Datasheet_solution_class_a.pdf |title=Archived copy |access-date=2017-07-27 |archive-date=2005-12-24 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20051224023742/http://www.nanco.se/pdf/icem/Datasheet_solution_class_a.pdf |url-status=dead }}{{Cite web |url=http://www.edstechnologies.com/assets/pdf/Brochures/Product%20Menu/PLM%20Solutions/ICEM/ICEM%20Surf/ICEM_Surf_Brochure.pdf |title=Archived copy |access-date=2017-07-27 |archive-date=2017-08-01 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170801005618/http://www.edstechnologies.com/assets/pdf/Brochures/Product%20Menu/PLM%20Solutions/ICEM/ICEM%20Surf/ICEM_Surf_Brochure.pdf |url-status=dead }}[https://web.archive.org/web/20170801003240/https://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/CaseStudyWeb/dispatch/viewResource.html?resourceId=30154] Its similar rival is Autodesk Alias.

History

ICEM Surf, originally known as VW Surf,{{cite web|url=http://www.icem.com/text.asp?PageId=12|title=ICEM – about us – history|date=10 February 2007|url-status=bot: unknown|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070210180406/http://www.icem.com/text.asp?PageId=12|archivedate=10 February 2007}} was developed by Volkswagen in the 1980s for advanced 3D surface modelling class A surfaces, visualization and analysis for use in the vehicle body development process.{{cite web|url=http://www.cimdata.com/newsletter/2005/51/01/51.01.11.htm|title=ICEM Sets out its Future Software Development 'Roadmap'|website=www.cimdata.com}}

Later, VW Surf was made commercially available to other automotive companies and was renamed as ICEM Surf and a joint venture company ICEM Technologies was floated to market and support the software. Later in the mid 1990s post Europe success, the division was spun off and became part of Control Data Systems, Inc. whose first CAD/CAM product was released way back in 1978. For a brief period, ICEM Technologies was part of PTC and again was a standalone company.{{cite web|url=http://www10.mcadcafe.com/nbc/articles/view_article.php?articleid=386350|title=A Class A Acquisition: Dassault and ICEM|website=MCADCafe}}{{cite web|url=http://www.icem.com/abouticem/abouticem.html|title=Icem – Company Overview|date=14 April 1997|url-status=bot: unknown|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/19970414061353/http://www.icem.com/abouticem/abouticem.html|archivedate=14 April 1997}}{{cite web|url=http://icem.com/|title=Welcome to ICEM|date=22 December 1996|url-status=bot: unknown|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/19961222020734/http://icem.com/|archivedate=22 December 1996}} Since 2007https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/containers/fix047/1016118/000094787107000588/f6k_042707-dassault2.htm ICEM Surf is part of Dassault Systèmes .{{cite web|url=https://www.3ds.com/press-releases/single/dassault-systemes-to-acquire-icem|title=Dassault Systèmes to Acquire ICEM|website=www.3ds.com|date=27 January 2020 }}{{cite web|url=http://icem.com/|title=ICEM|date=26 May 2007|url-status=bot: unknown|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070526233937/http://icem.com/|archivedate=26 May 2007}}{{cite web|url=http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2007/04/22-icem-shape-design-r17/|title=ICEM Shape Design R17 released – Car Body Design|website=www.carbodydesign.com}}{{cite web|url=http://www.firstpost.com/business/eds-technologies-ties-up-with-icem-1861695.html|title=EDS Technologies Ties-Up With ICEM|date=11 September 2007|publisher=}}
